The Manager's Position on Celtic

McKenna referred to Celtic as "an enormous soccer institution" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.

The mid-thirties took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and guided the team to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they managed only four games last season as they were relegated back to the second division and they currently sit 12th in England's second tier.

"There have been such conversations," the London-born former Northern Ireland youth international said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my concentration is this week.

"I have a special job here at a remarkable club. And we're at a crucial phase of the campaign. Everything outside of that hasn't reached my radar."

Context and Contractual Aspects

Reports indicate that McKenna would be open to speaking to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances.

"During youth, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about those. "It's unlikely everyone has to go around and announce what they used to be, but of course it's a really big sports organization."

McKenna agreed to a new four-year contract in 2024 and was questioned about his alleged £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he responded. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I tackle this job like I will remain Ipswich manager forever. I understand that's not always going to be the case, but I'll always give maximum effort as while I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

Bellamy represented the Hoops on temporary transfer from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the former Wales forward is inclined to complete the current World Cup campaign, a position that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Glasgow position.

Wales are currently in third place in their qualifying group behind group toppers the Red Devils and runners-up North Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and North Macedonia in November would secure their position in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually assured of reaching that stage, thanks to a successful Nations League campaign, should they fail to finish as their group runners-up.

Given his current stance, Bellamy, whose contract concludes after the European Championship, would not be available until following the qualifying matches at the earliest.
