The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller That Blends Silent Hill and Social Deduction Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a young woman containing several human souls inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Inside her reside four separate souls, each with their own fears and motivations. These souls can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their innermost terrors upon her suddenly.

Based on showcased footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie medical facility, while other scenes show the main character navigating a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Things that appear minor to others can trigger something primal inside us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The central mechanic revolves around controlling the persona that surfaces at a particular moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. While exploring, each soul's fears become exaggerated and attack the protagonist in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with orderlies all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the waiting room have enormous flowers growing from their necks are. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

After a player believes a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, because every entity can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The last one remaining could be a fake. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
