Individual Who Reached For Ariana Grande at Movie Premiere Prohibited from Singapore
An Australian man that leaped across a fence and reached for celebrity Ariana Grande has been expelled and banned from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, 26, was handed a penalty to more than a week in detention for being a public nuisance and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," the country's border control stated to local media.
The man shoved through camera crews and charged at the celebrity, who was attending the Asian debut for the film on 13 November. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo wrestled him away from Grande.
He has a background of interrupting performances and star-studded occasions, including leaping onto the platform at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in the past June.
The occurrence provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with numerous people saying he of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The celebrity has discussed dealing with PTSD after a terrorist bombing at her show in the English city in spring of 2017 took the lives of 22 people and hurt numerous attendees.
In the legal process, the court heard he had attempted to intrude on the red carpet event twice, according to local news sources.
He then made a another effort to cross the barriers. Protection personnel intercepted him and held him in place.
Wen later posted video clips thanking Grande for letting him on the carpet and said he was "released."
Law enforcement arrested him the next day and accused him with disorderly conduct, to which he confessed.
The Presiding Judge the magistrate was cited by media reports as stating that the man sought attention, commenting that he was mistaken to believe he would not face any penalties.
Grande has not spoken about the incident.
The co-star discussed the event to the press, saying that she "just wanted to ensure my co-star was protected."
"I'm sure he didn't intend us harm, but you never know with these incidents, and I wanted to confirm that she was fine. That was my initial reaction," she said.
